Centennial, Wyoming The Mountain View Hotel, from 1907-2018.
Centennial Wyoming is tucked between the grasslands of the Laramie Plains and the stunning natural beauty of the Snowy Range Mountains and the Medicine Bow National Forest, the town Centennial, Wyoming was born in 1875 due to the discovery of gold. Due to the abundance of natural resources the town continued to trade timber even after the gold faulted and in the early 1900's financier and entrepreneur Isaac Van Horn and his associate Fred A. Miller decided to turn Centennial into a bustling commercial center, in the hope that gold would return. Their grand plan for the town included a dance pavilion, bank, newspaper office, upcoming polo grounds and a hotel.
The Mountain View Hotel was built in 1907 in time for the July 4th celebration of the first train to Centennial. Originally painted white with a black trim, the hotel cost $8,000 and featured 20 guest rooms, a dining room and a “most improved system of plumbing”, although the bathrooms ended up in the stables. The original china and registration book can be viewed today at the Nici Self Museum in Centennial with the current hotel also displaying many pictures of the Mountain View in its various stages of renovation. Today it has been lovingly restored, and in July 2007 it was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
The hotel now boasts 7 guest rooms and suites all with private bathrooms, though the history of the building has not been diminished with these modern accommodation amenities. It also features an in-house café serving breakfast and lunch and features an espresso bar (call 307-223-6007 for current hours), perfect for an epic day in the mountain range. Best place for travelers and families. Situated at the eastern entrance of the Snowy Mountain Range, the Mountain View Hotel is the perfect place to start your outdoor adventures or bucket list Wyoming safari in any season. With a wealth of local knowledge to help you plan your hiking, fishing, ski, cross country, snowshoe trip, it is easy to get out and explore.
The Mountain View Hotel is as proud to welcome guests today as she did 110 years ago.
